As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer, you will build mission-critical user-facing software, from the ground up. You’ll work across the stack, from the database to the user interface. You will design and implement clean internal APIs using proven architectural patterns while keeping non-functional requirements such as security, performance, and reliability in mind. You will plan and implement the architecture of each project under the supervision of our CTO and deliver maintainable, well-tested code and infrastructure.

• Architect major web and mobile features and applications with our CTO.

As the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer at Balance, you will be critical in our success by ensuring full compliance with applicable laws and regulations and identifying, quantifying, and managing risk within the organization. In this role you will holistically oversee all functions of the company and enforce compliance with various policies and procedures. You will develop and maintain such policies, procedures, and standards, regularly assess their effectiveness, and train our staff internally in accordance with their role and responsibilities. You will report to the CEO and in respect of certain matters directly to the board of directors.

• Maintain and continuously develop our AML/CTF compliance regime.
• Maintain and continuously develop our sanctions compliance program (SCP).
• Maintain our risk register and develop and implement risk treatment plans.
• Ensure compliance with FINTRAC’s requirements as a registered MSB.
• Ensure compliance with FinCEN’s requirements as a registered money transmitter.
• Ensure compliance with ATBF’s requirements as a registered trust company.
• Ensure compliance with any applicable securities law and regulations.
• Perform KYC/KYT and ongoing monitoring, manage and audit records, review and submit reports, coordinate effectiveness reviews, train staff, respond to law enforcement requests, and generally speaking roll up your sleeves. This is a doer role focused on individual contributions with very few direct reports, not a manager role.

• BSc. degree (MA or MBA preferred) in an analytical discipline such as Finance, Accounting, Administration, or Economics.

• Demonstrable knowledge and proficiency with blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
• Demonstrable experience in engaging constructively with regulatory agencies such as FINTRAC, FinCEN, OFAC, IRS, CSA, CIRO, ATBF, OSFI, FSRAO, CRA and others.
